Summer Education Program

The Summer Education Program infuses fun, engaging activities along with educational content to help ensure our Club members experience academic success! Our Summer Education Program will begin on Monday, June 11th. Classes are broken up into academic topics and age categories. Minimal fees are required to cover the cost of added expenses and materials.  
 
To register your child for classes, please fill out the Summer Education Form at The Boys & Girls Club.  Payment for classes is expected prior to the start of each session.

A1 A Wrinkle in Time Book Club 
Mondays & Tuesdays 1:30-3 pm 
Grades 5th and up.  Cost $20 
 Filled with humor, wisdom, and creativity, A Wrinkle in Time is for anyone who ever wondered about other planets or time travel, wishing their life was made for more than just “fitting in.” This book is the satisfaction of childhood dreams and curiosities, and teaches how we can all still fight the shadow, no matter our age. The price includes the book for your child’s personal library. 

 A2 Adventure Club 
Tuesdays 1-3:15 pm 
Grades 5th and up Cost: $30 
This summer, Club kids will have the opportunity to explore the outdoors by participating in nature trips each week. Fishing fundamentals, hiking experiences and an opportunity to go kayaking will provide fun ways to experience nature. Permission slip required, comfortable closed toes shoes on hiking days and a life jacket will be needed when kayaking. Space is limited and this class will be repeated during the second session of summer to allow for more children. Children will be driven in staff owned/insured cars. Space is limited to 9. 

 A3 Cultural Kitchen 
Thursdays & Fridays 1:30-3 pm
All Grades Cost: $25 
In this hands-on introduction to foods from around the world, children will learn about other cultures through recipes of ethnic dishes. They will also get an introduction to many diverse cultures by learning games, traditions, and customs from around the world.  

 A4 Line Dancing and Choreography 
Thursdays 1:30-3 pm 
TEN WEEK PROGRAM 
All Grades Cost: $15 
If you like to dance and perform, you won’t want to miss out on this opportunity. We will learn fun line dances and put our talents to the test by creating our own choreography and our own dance. We will display our talents at the end of the program where we can perform for our family and friends. Space is limited to 15. 
 
A5 Club SPA 
 Mondays & Tuesdays 3:30-415 pm 
All Grades Cost: $25.00 
Pamper, de-stress and learn about taking care of mind, body and soul by trying different relaxation and meditation techniques. Food, fashion, and fitness are discussed so preteens and teens learn to care for their bodies inside and out. Create scented masks, facials, foot soaks, exfoliates and aromatherapies. Practice hair, nails, and skin care using natural techniques which include nutrition, exercise, meditation, manicures, and more. 

 A6 Pirates of the Caribbean 
 Thursdays & Fridays 3:30-4:15 pm
 Grades 4th-and up Cost: $10.00 
Create your own treasure map and learn how to follow one this summer while we explore the history of famous pirates, shipwrecks and tidy up our map skills. Scavenger hunts, treasure finds and designing our own pirate flag will keep you from walking the plank! We will feature a fun pirate movie complete with popcorn and drinks! 

A7 Jr. Staff Monday 
Tuesday & Thursday 3:30-4:15 pm 
5th Grade and Up Cost: FREE 
Club members will develop leadership and interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and a sense of community engagement while experiencing on the job Club work. Participants will be given a weekly work schedule and specific job related responsibilities. Limit to 12 children.

July 16th – August 24th

B1 We All Scream for Ice Cream 
Mondays & Tuesdays 1:30-3 pm 
 All Grades Cost: $25.00 
Summer is the perfect time to learn how to engineer different processes for making ice cream. Participants will learn the history of ice cream, distinguish the difference between frozen yogurts, sherbet, and sorbet and of course, ice cream. Kids will have fun mixing flavors in various recipes and creating unique names for their frozen concoctions.  
 
 B2 Adventure Club 
Tuesdays 1-3:15 pm 
Grades 5th and up Cost: $30.00

B3 Camp BLD – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner 
Thursday & Friday 1:30-3 pm 
All Grades Cost: $25.00 
This culinary class will help empower members to become actively involved in the planning, preparing, and cooking of healthy meals. Members will also be practicing using different units of measurements, will practice working with fractions, and proper food handling skills. Chefs will be creating their own cookbooks containing the recipes they prepare 
 
B4 Super Science Experiments
 Monday & Tuesday 3:30-4:15 pm 
All grades Cost: $15.00 
Join us and see how irresistibly fun science can be! Each day, you will get the opportunity to carry out a different exciting science experiment that will leave you fascinated and excited to return the next day! This summer create elephant toothpaste, liquid light, and a fog tornado! Our science finale will be creating your very own erupting volcano! 

B5 Image Makers 
Thursdays 3:30-415 pm 
All grades Cost: $15.00 
This program encourages Club members to learn and practice black-and-white, color, digital and alternative process photography in different categories: Portraits, Nature and Surroundings, Fashion and Style, and Editing and Filter. 

 B6 Chess & Games of Strategy 
Fridays 330-415 pm 
Grades: 5th and up Cost $5 
Make a move in the right direction by learning classic board games. Strategy means outwitting your opponent, and chess is the most famous game of skill. Learn the background of Chess, terminology, and goals of the game, rules and simple moves to open play. Discuss the mechanics and skills used in several other games of strategy like checkers, Battleship, and even tic-tac-toe.
